Many years back the (first) 12" Powerbook was famous for getting very hot wristrests, such that people managed to fry an egg on them. Some model years of MBPs are pushing the envelope a bit more because they use components with higher heat output or a slightly underpowered heat-management and run hot more often and have a more noisy fan.

I finally solved by combining three layers of very thin foam with two layers of aluminium foil (action as heat shields, it felt like the problem for my wrists was more heat radiation than the actual temperature of the surface). I initially countered this by putting a moist tissues on the wristrests but they needed watering frequently.

And that is even without the fans running at full speed. But for several years (2009 & 2012 13" MBP), when the ambient temperature rises above 25 ✬ and I have an external monitor connected, my MBP gets hot enough that I get a very slight burning/irritation feeling in my wrists. However, even under little load, 60 ✬ can be quite normal, indeed, as soon as the temperature dropped to 60 ✬, my MBP dropped the fan speed to a minimum. I personally never managed to get above 95 ✬ but that doesn't mean that a few degrees more would be abnormal (and I very rarely checked the temperature). Getting close to 100 ✬ Celsius is not uncommon under maximum load. It's still not right, fan comes on all the time when I'm using Chrome and I don't like Safari.

Last week I took it in and left it with them while they did some tests, couldn't find anything wrong, then whilst I was picking it up the guy started to try to sell me a tutorial service with their photographic expert, he tried to convince me that Apples Aperture software was better than Photoshop, maybe but I've been using Adobe of many years and have no intention of changing, when I mentioned about my machine overheating and running at up to 105 degrees he said that sounds quite hot but under load that could be expected an to 'think myself lucky it wasn't 105 centigrade' When I said 'IT IS 105 CENTIGRADE' his face kind of dropped and he muttered something about boiling point, but still only suggested a few software tweaks. I've cloned the machine onto an external HD and ran it from that to see if there was any difference, there wasn't but when I connected the HD to another rMBP (not quite the same model) it ran 20 or so degrees cooler.Īny Macbook/Lightroom users out there care to share their thoughts? It's a 1st gen 15" 2.6 GHz i7 with 8gb and a 512 flash disk.

My Retina MacBook Pro runs very hot, according to SMC fan control app often above BOILING POINT with fan speeds above 5500(noisy) when exporting/importing with Lightroom and watching anything on Youtube through Chrome, previously they've swapped the fans and on another occasion replaced a logic board.
